St. Paul’s Educational Institutions is one of the oldest institutions in the cotton textile hub of Davangere. It was started in the year 1946 by the Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa (CSST) under the aegis of Teresian Carmel Education Society (TCES), with its head quarters at Mysore. The Nursery School was opened in the year 1946 October 10th with six students on the roll and by the end of march, number of students increased to sixty. In June 1947 Kannada Medium primary section was opened with due sanction from the Educational department of Davangere. St. Paul’s Educational Institutions have educated thousands of students of all categories, and have contributed to nation building. It has produced with its existence of 75 years prominent and well known academicians like administrators, politicians, legal and medical professionals, engineers, doctors and outstanding sports persons. A tiny seed has germinated and grown into a huge tree sheltering 3,000 students at present. St. Paul’s Convent Educational Institutions have parallel sections, both Kannada and English Medium both Aided and Unaided, C.B.S.E. and P.U. The management gives free education as well concessions to deserving students from disadvantaged sections of the society. As mentioned above tiny inconspicuous seed germinated; gradually grown into a mighty tree and have taken giant strides and what it started with 6 students, has grown today into a sprawling educational complex with the might of thousands of people worked behind the scene.
In 1947 department of education gave permission to start Primary Kannada Medium. In the same year Primary School building was constructed. It is worth to mention our pioneers were Sr. Peirre, Sr. Euphrasia, Sr. Carmela, Sr. Clarissa and Sr. Claudia who have left behind poignant memories and worked zealously for furnishing and to bring up and leaving behind memories of the past. Sr. Carmela was the first Head Mistress of kannada medium school.
Generous donation Rs. 15,000/- was contributed by Mr. Dharma Pravartha Rajanahalli Hanumanthappa towards our institutions. Mr. B.M Subbarao, was generous enough to give 3 spacious rooms to run the school in the year 1946, in the same year on October 10th with 6 students the Infant Jesus Nursery school started. It was a red letter day when we got permission to start English Medium High School on 3rd may 1949 with a batch of 29 students. Today we have 3,000 students on roll. From the beginning, the entire staff, students and management have unitedly worked hard to keep up high percentage in S.S.L.C. result above 95%-100%., and VII standard Examination those days. Some of our students have secured state ranks and some of them were the toppers of the Davanagere District in S.S.L.C examination. “ A day without prayer is a day without blessing and a life without prayers is a life without power” says Edwin Harvey. From the beginning itself this temple of learning knew the power of prayer and made the whole school to come together to pray and to get strength, guidance and wisdom from God. “The quality of a life is determined by its activities”. Says Aristotle. To bring out the inborn talents form every students, the school conducts curricular and co –curricular activities. Cultural week is held in order to give importance to extracurricular activities, such as intramural competitions like drama, singing, patriotic song, drawing, music drama etc. are held. The school students participate in departmental and other organisation in sports and various competitions and our students have brought laurels to our intuitions. We have various clubs namely maths, science, sports, social –science, languages, computer IT quiz, drawing and SUPW. In the middle of the year we set apart two days for exhibitions by various clubs, judged prizes are given to the winners. Many more opportunities are offered to the students to make them mature and disciplined. Guides, NCC and YSM, YCS play an important role in moulding their life.
Our students are well trained in sports, mass drills, Kho-kho, throw ball, basket ball, shuttle-badminton. They have been trained under the guidance of Mr. Huchangappa and our P.T. Teachers of all sections. Many of our students shine in National and International sports. A special mention should be made about Miss. Angel Mary “An angel with a big heart” is the title given by many of the leading newspapers those days. Angel Mary received ‘ARJUNA AWARD’ for her sports achievements from Government of India. The school parliament formed for the benefit of the students to prepare them and bring out the leadership quality in them. This purely done in order to communicate with school management, in a democratic way to solve problems, to satisfy pupils needs and to have leadership qualities among them. It also motivates pupils to participate in school events and to supports team work.
Adding to above students excels in Science, NCC, Guide, Wrestling and Karate, Rally and Inspire award. Important days like environmental day, Doctors day, National youth day, Woman’s day, Martyrs day, Thinking day, Aids day, Yoga day, Science day, including state important days Kanakadasa Jayanthi, Valmiki Jayanthi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanthi, Teachers day are celebrated meaningfully with apt messages. Many of our teachers add feather to the cap by receiving awards from various department.
